GOVERNANCE

Housing Act 1988

This act governs the law between landlords and tenants.

Note: It was The Housing Act 1980 that gave five million council house tenants in England and Wales the Right to Buy their house from their local authority

Voluntary Right to Buy

The word voluntary refers to the fact that Housing Associations have chosen (volunteered) to give their tenants the right to buy their homes, like Council house tenants. This scheme (VRTB) is still being tested.
